EDUCATION

Mezzo Soprano, Chanara Casey Richmond, was a member of the Dominican University Voice Faculty from 1983-2003, during which time she was an active performer and full-time teacher.  She holds an Associate of Arts degree from Long Beach City College, a Bachelor of Music degree from San Francisco State University (summa cum laude) and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Dominican University (summa cum laude).   A long-standing member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, she teaches group classes, workshops and private sessions.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

CLASSICAL:  Opera, Oratorio & Free Lance 

Chanara’s opera background includes work with the San Francisco Talent Bank, Lamplighters, College of Marin, Dominican University, San Francisco State University and Long Beach City College, performing the roles of Mrs. Jones in “Street Scenes,” Miss Todd in “The Old Maid and the Thief,” Alma in “Summer and Smoke,” the Mother in “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” La Ciesca in “Gianni Schicchi,” Gianetta in “The Gondoliers,” the Daughter in Bach’s “Coffee Cantata,” and Miranda in “Oyster Garden.” With the Marin Opera Company, Chanara performed the roles of Martha in “Faust” and the Countess in “Rigoletto.”

Chanara’s solo work with the Winifred Baker Chorale, the National Organist Guild, The Marin Chamber Orchestra, The Irish Historical Society and the American Bach Soloists includes such oratorios as Handel’s “Messiah,” Bernstein’s “Mass,” Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” Bach’s “Christmas Cantata” and “Cantata No. 72, Alles nur nach Gottes willen,” Mozart’s “Vesperae solemnes de confessore,” Montaine’s “The Nine Lessons of Christmas,” Mendelssohn’s “St. Paul,” Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasy” and “Ninth Symphony,” and the College of Marin’s production of “Amadeus.”

Chanara’s professional singing includes church services of every denomination.  Her performances at weddings, funerals, and various events are countless.  She also worked with Figgy Pudding Dicken’s Quartets in San Francisco for ten years.

MUSICAL ~ MARIGOLD & THE LEPRECHAUN KING

Chanara’s 3-act Children’s Musical, written for voice, flute, harp and cello, comes with three CD options; a professional cast version, an orchestral version for performance use, and a radio version that comes with a coloring book.  Chanara has performed this as a one-woman show, complete with storyboard illustrations, dancing and sing-along songs.
